Monash Pharmacy: 2026 Curriculum and 2027 Award Transition

Monash University is a separate institution; its earlier Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) and Master of Pharmacy route is not an INTIAU programme or partnership.

The older P6001 course page lists Parkville, five years full time and a February start. These are legacy reference points, not verified 2027 admission instructions.

The announced 2027 award transition

Checked 17 October 2026: Monash’s international pharmacy page announces Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours)/Doctor of Pharmacy from 2027, replacing the previous bachelor/master route. The master remains an alternative exit. The faculty describes a curriculum uplift; the 2026 map below does not establish that revised syllabus. Students must arrange their own supervised practice position.

A combined title can hide a crucial planning distinction: entering a course, completing its undergraduate award and progressing into supervised professional practice are separate events. Build your comparison around those transitions. This makes the guide useful whether you are investigating pharmacy after school or comparing it with another science-based professional degree.

Identify the route before comparing its length

The older faculty route explanation separates combined P6001 from standalone Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours), P3001. In that structure, the four-year bachelor component precedes the pre-registration internship year, during which the master’s component is undertaken. It also describes a bachelor-only exit.

Write the award and course code together whenever you compare options. An apparently shorter entry route may depend on previous study, while an apparently similar title may end at a different qualification. Do not substitute the structure of another campus or a graduate-entry pathway for the standard school-leaver route. Ask separately about eligibility, advanced standing and the conditions attached to an offer.

A reading map of the published curriculum

This table condenses the 2026 P6001 progression map. It is not a verified 2027 timetable.

Selected 2026 stages, with independent comparison questions
Stage Selected study themes Question to explore
Year 1 Body function, medicines and professional practice. Can I explain a mechanism clearly without hiding behind terminology?
Year 2 Drug delivery and comprehensive care. How would I connect a scientific explanation to a person’s needs?
Years 3–4 Complex care, inquiry and experiential placements. What evidence would change my first interpretation?
Year 5 Applied pharmacy and foundation practice. How should feedback reshape a professional judgement?

For a named unit example, the map places PHR1021, How medicines work 1: Physical chemistry, in first-year semester one.

The official PHR1021 unit entry is the place to check its current detailed description.

Use a unit example to test the level of detail in your comparison, not to infer a complete syllabus from its name. Record the course code, the year of the entry and the source of any assessment information. If detailed content is unavailable, leave that field open and ask a precise question rather than importing an older outline or another university’s assessment pattern.

The map warns that placements and inquiry projects can give years three and four nonstandard teaching and assessment dates.

Distinguish older prerequisites from current entry instructions

The older P6001 page lists VCE-equivalent prerequisites in English, Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics, and Chemistry, alongside English-language requirements. These are not independently verified entry conditions for the redesigned 2027 route.

Monash’s application process generally routes domestic undergraduates through VTAC. International applicants studying specified Australian Year 12, IB or New Zealand qualifications also use VTAC; other international applicants can investigate direct application through Monash.

A February start is not an application deadline. For 2027 entry, confirm the current award, entry conditions, application route and document deadline directly with Monash. This guide does not verify a single closing date for every qualification. Keep admission distinct from the later arrangements needed for supervised practice and registration; an award title alone establishes neither.

Original activity: compare two explanations

Choose a harmless everyday process, such as sugar dissolving in water. Write an explanation for a reader with no science background, then a second explanation for a science student. List the assumptions in each. Ask which claims you could test, which would need a reliable reference and which are merely convenient simplifications. Do not perform experiments involving medicines or use the exercise to advise anyone’s treatment.

Next compare two programmes using a one-page evidence file. Give each a row for scientific foundations, practical learning, investigation and progression conditions. Put an official link beside each factual note, and a question mark beside unresolved details. Add a short reflection on which type of work you most want to improve. This is an original preparation activity, not a Monash assignment or selection requirement.

Frequently asked questions

Are the older P6001 and P3001 descriptions identical?

No. They distinguish the combined bachelor/master route from the standalone honours bachelor.

Is the master the only announced 2027 exit?

No. The faculty announces the Doctor of Pharmacy route, retaining the master as an alternative exit.

Does the table guarantee next year’s unit sequence?

No. It summarises the named 2026 map. Verify the Handbook and progression advice for your own commencing cohort.
